Ken Block Joins Audi! And Gets The Ultimate Welcoming.

I am excited to announce that I have teamed up with Audi on an electrifying new partnership, which will include expanding the Gymkhana franchise to include a new installment starring a very top secret Audi e-tron. The film, dubbed Electrikhana, is scheduled to release in 2022. This union will also see me exploring Audi’s cutting-edge racing and EV technologies, plus serve as a catalyst to push the limits of what’s possible in an electric vehicle. This partnership is literally a dream decades in the making. Audi’s efforts in the WRC, specifically with their Group B cars, along with their wins at Pikes Peak in the 1980’s is what led me down the path to become a rally driver. Their Quattro system pioneered the AWD car revolution and forever changed the sport of rally, and now I’m getting a chance to be a part of their next leap in motorsports with electric performance. It’s quite an honor, and humbling, to now consider myself a part of a team that I have highly respected for so long. And I can’t wait to share more details on the vehicle Audi is building for Electrikhana, it’s going to be insane. To leadoff the new relationship, I recently traveled to Audi’s home in Ingolstadt, Germany to emerge in all things Four Rings. This trip is documented in a three-part series, the first episode of explores the influence, heritage, and the future of the automobile manufacturer in racing. I got to sample an arsenal from Audi’s current line up including the new ridiculous fast, Audi RS e-tron GT as well as the Audi e-tron Vision GT concept car. But while the partnership looks to the future of performance, I wasn’t going to miss out on an opportunity to drive some iconic machines from the past, including Hans Stuck’s championship winning DTM Audi V8 and Walter Röhrl’s legendary Group B Audi Quattro S1 E2. In addition, I got an intimate look at Audi’s all new Dakar-racecar, the RS Q e-tron racer that will be reimagining the way people view electrification in long distance, endurance racing. All of which can be seen in the coming episodes. And to answer the question on everyone’s minds: why the switch to electrified vehicles? For me, it’s simple really: It’s new. It’s high level performance. It’s the future. We’ve got a tuned Nissan Skyline R34 lining up against a tuned Ford Mustang and a standard BMW M3! So how do they compare to each other? Well starting with Mat in the Mustang, it’s powered by a 5-litre V8 with a supercharger added to it, which as a result produces 735hp & 690Nm. It’s RWD only, and there’s no launch control to be found! 😬 Next up we have Yianni in the M3 Competition. It’s just stock, so that means it's powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six, which puts down 510hp and 650Nm. It’s RWD just like the Mustang, but it has one key advantage - it DOES have launch control! And then finally we have the classic Skyline. It’s packing a 2.7-litre straight-six, which has been tuned to produce 750hp & 800Nm. And unlike the other two, it’s got AWD! There’s one key difference here though… While the BMW & Ford are automatic, the GT-R is manual! Will that be the key difference? Brian and I take a quick trip to Audi’s Design Center in Ingolstadt, Germany to see my 1 of 1 Gymkhana Prototype. It's wild that Audi was able to condense a one year build process from the drawing boards to reality in only four weeks! The all-electric Hoonitron is essentially a fully modernized version of one of my favorite race cars, the legendary Group B Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2, so I'm extremely excited for this. We’ve also brought in a BMW M2, a Porsche Cayman GTS and a Golf R for this epic drag race! Right then, let’s look at the stats. Starting with the new RS3, it’s powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged 5 cylinder that puts out 400hp & 500Nm of torque. Alongside it, we have the A45, with a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder that produces 420hp & 500Nm. It’s heavier than the RS3 though, weighing in at 1,625kg compared to the Audi’s 1,570kg! Next up we have two rear-wheel-drive cars - the BMW M2 and the Cayman GTS. Under the Bimmer’s bonnet, you’ll find a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that puts down 410hp & 550Nm. As for the Porsche, it’s powered by a glorious 4-litre flat-six engine that delivers 400hp & 420Nm. It’s also the lightest car here, weighing in at 1,480kg… However, it’s also the only manual in this line-up!!Then finally we have the Golf, with a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder that puts out 320hp & 420Nm. It weighs in at 1,550kg, and it’s the cheapest car here, setting you back £40,000. Will it be a walkover for the Audi?
