Mat’s lining up in his long-termer BMW M3, which is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can put down 510hp & 650Nm of torque. It weighs in at 1,730kg and if you’re looking to pick one up, it’ll set you back at least £75,000. On the opposite side of the strip, we have our newest long-termer, the Audi RS5 Sportback. It may be slightly down on power, producing 450hp & 600Nm from its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, but it has one advantage over the M3 - it’s equipped with Quattro all-wheel-drive! The weight is almost identical, at 1,745kg, and it’s also slightly cheaper, at £71,000. Then finally we have the AMG C63 Black Series! It’s housing a monstrous 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 under the bonnet, which can put down 517hp & 620Nm. It’s the lightest car here, at 1,710kg, but it’ll also cost you the most (in 2021, at least), with a price tag of £110,000. So, how will this one play out? Will the classic C63 Black snatch it? Or will it be a walkover for the M3? Yet again, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were often fighting for the same piece of race circuit. So let’s break down some of the incidents from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.Why did Verstappen crash in qualy, when he didn’t really need to? Was Lewis’ racing fair after the first restart? Will Verstappen EVER yield in wheel-to-wheel racing? And, did he brake test Lewis?First off, the drama all started on Saturday, when Max had put together a mostly astonishing lap - fast, hard and taking risks. He was over 2 tenths up on Hamilton at the end of sector two. Then into the final corner he tried to carry a little too much speed in, locked a front left tyre.Whether or not he needed to be pushing so hard at this point is debatable - especially when he had a good margin. However, it’s unlikely he knew Hamilton’s time, I doubt he was talking to his engineer during the lap (as the Jeddah circuit requires so much focus with little break). So, Verstappen’s only reference would have been his own time delta - the plus or minus his best time - on the steering wheel. Why did Mercedes shine brightest under the lights at Losail?Red Bull had believed that Mercedes were somehow getting around the wing flex regulations. These are the rules that are supposed to stop the wings of the cars flexing at high speed, as the fast-moving air hits them. The more the wings flex, the less frontal area they have in the air, the flatter they are and so the less drag they create - meaning higher speeds along the straights, but the same downforce in the corners - an engineer’s dream.The FIA check the wing flex by adding weights to the wings, and measuring how much they move.
